Tags
Organize and categorize your threads with a flexible tagging system.
What Are Tags?
Tags are labels you can apply to threads to categorize and organize them. They help your team quickly identify the type, priority, or topic of a thread at a glance.
Creating Tags
Tags are created on the fly when you first use them. When creating or editing a thread (via the modal), you can type any tag name. If it doesn't exist yet, Smithy creates it for your team.
Tags are team-scoped, meaning each Slack workspace has its own set of tags. Tags created in one workspace won't appear in another.
Applying Tags
You can apply tags to a thread in several ways:
- During creation — add tags in the thread creation modal
- After creation — click the Edit button on the thread to open the edit modal, then update the tags field
How Tags Display
Tags appear on the thread as a labeled section, making them visible to anyone viewing the thread. When tags are added or changed, Smithy also posts a reply in the thread noting the update.
You can also view tags inline on thread lists by using the Show tags button on /thread open, /thread stale, and /thread search. When enabled, tags appear as gray code badges next to each thread's subject.
Tracking Tags
You can view tag usage statistics across your channels from the Smithy dashboard. This gives you a high-level view of how your team categorizes discussions.
