Dashboard Preferences
Smithy uses a two-level preference system: set customer-wide defaults that apply to all your workspaces, then optionally override specific settings per workspace. Preferences are managed from the Smithy dashboard and require admin access.
Auto-Close
Control whether threads are automatically closed after a period of inactivity. When enabled, you can choose the number of days before a thread is auto-closed:
- 5 days
- 7 days (default)
- 10 days
- 14 days
When auto-close triggers, the thread is closed with an automatic closure note. See Closing & Reopening for more on how thread closure works.
Require Thread Resolution
When enabled, users must enter a final comment or decision when closing a thread. This ensures every thread has a recorded outcome, making it easier for team members to understand what was decided without reading the entire conversation.
Thread Creation Modal
Controls whether Smithy shows a confirmation modal when creating threads from channel messages. When enabled, users see a modal where they can set a subject, content, and tags before the thread is created.
When disabled, threads are created automatically without any confirmation step. See Classic Threads for more on the thread creation flow.
Workspace Overrides
If you manage multiple Slack workspaces, you can override any preference at the workspace level. Each workspace can be set to:
- Use default — inherits the customer-level setting
- Enable — turns the feature on for this workspace regardless of the default
- Disable — turns the feature off for this workspace regardless of the default
Use the Clear All Overrides button to reset a workspace back to your customer defaults.
Who Can Manage Preferences
Only admin users can view and modify preferences. Non-admin team members see a read-only view of the current settings.
To manage admins for your account, visit the admin management section of the dashboard.
